Write! Club
The kind, supportive writing club for both beginners and experienced writers. Nurture your writing, your creativity and your self.
A different kind of writing group.
No pressure.
No competition.
Do you find the idea of a writing group intimidating?
Many writing groups focus only on critique, publication or output. You may even have had a previous experience of a writing group where you ended up feeling judged or that somehow your writing wasn’t 'good enough.'
Our community is different. Some of us are writing with publication in mind, but all of us are focused on the process of writing. We believe that a holistic approach to our creative practice nurtures our lives as well as the quality of our writing.

This is a space for you to develop
A consistent creative practice just for you.
To embrace joy.
To experience deep rest.
To explore your inner world.
To rewrite unhelpful stories.
To invite playfulness and lightness in.
To find out what you'd like your words to do in the world.
It can be hard to
write in isolation.
Now you have a place to go to write with others, without the pressure to share what you write and without any worries that you might be made to feel not good enough.
Whether you’d like to start writing, keep writing, or explore your creativity through writing, this SPACE is for you.

Just starting out?
Perhaps you haven't done any writing since you left school? It doesn’t matter! Not sure if you’re 'creative enough' to join a writing group? You most definitely are!
Over 25 years, I've worked with thousands of people all over the world at many different stages in their lives and writing journeys.
I know that everyone can develop a nourishing, everyday creative writing practice of some kind.

Experienced writer?
If you’re an experienced writer or creative person, feeling stuck, weary or burnt out, this space and community can help you to find deep rest and to reconnect with your flow.
I'll help you to let go of blocks, stuckness and self-judgement and rediscover what it is that you love about your practice.
Writing doesn't need to feel difficult.
A gentle and kind approach to your creative process so you can find your Flow.
Let me guide you in letting go of your own or others' expectations about what you think you should or ought to write. Find out what it is that you really need or want to say right now. What is your body telling you? What needs to be heard or witnessed? What stories are calling you?
WritE! Club will help you to explore a holistic approach to creativity and self-enquiry.
WRITING
Fall in love with your writing. My writing invitations and experiments are designed to open you up to fresh inspiration. You'll discover new starting points and explore beloved favourites in new and playful ways. I'll encourage you to hold your writing lightly. There is never a right or wrong way to write, just the way that works for you.

EXPERIMENT
There is plenty of space to explore new approaches to your writing. Some people find it helpful to play with shape and colour through material techniqes – collage, cut-up and found writing. Others enjoy experimenting with new writing forms and genres. Find what works for you and embed it in your practice.
SOMATIC (BODY-BASED) WORK
Our minds and bodies are intimately intertwined. It can be very helpful to acknowledge this when we’re writing. In our writing sessions, there are opportunities to gently explore somatics, mindfulness and breathwork, if this feels right for you (but there is absolutely no expectation for you to do this if it doesn't). More than anything, we'll create space together where you can slow down and create space for your writing amidst the noise of everyday life.

Writing for Wellbeing can help you to:

Let go of Anxiety and Stress
Offering you a space to slow down, connect with and process your feelings, both privately and in community with others. Build resilience and find calm amidst the chaos.

Process difficult Experiences
Writing can help us to express feelings of confusion, grief and worry. Writing techniques can help us to gain new insights into our stories. Finding words for our difficult feelings can help us to feel a greater sense of agency, understanding and control.

Move Through Blocks and stuckness
Do you feel like something is in the way of your progress with a project? I can help you to transform your relationship with the page and your creative practice. You’ll have tools to help you to move through stuckness and become your own constructive reader and editor.

Practice Creative Rest
Step away from pressure, productivity, and perfectionism. This is a space to slow down, soften, and let writing become a form of rest—helping you replenish your energy, soothe your nervous system, and reconnect with creativity as a nourishing, life-giving practice.

Embrace your Inner Teacher
We talk about the 'inner critic' but did you know that you have an inner teacher? I'll help you to reconnect with your own source of comfort and guidance.

How our WRITE! Together live sessions work:
Hear from
other WRITE! Club members:

“I have always enjoyed writing, but have frequently struggled with feeling stuck or feeling as though there was no reason or purpose for my writing.
Sophie’s workshops gave me a focus and a routine. There was accountability, but also flexibility. There was never any pressure to share what we had written, and our conversations about our own experience of creativity and writing were both instructive and supportive. Just committing to meet and write each week inspired me to grab some time during the week to write also, helping me to develop a more consistent habit of writing that has continued long after our time together.”
- Elizabeth from Minnesota, USA

"I can absolutely say that my writing is vastly improved through my work with her. There is no one I would recommend more highly.
Sophie is a mentor, cheerleader, editor, accountability partner, advocate, consultant, and muse all wrapped into one incredible person. Whether I needed encouragement, accountability, direction, or one of her many prompts and tools to help get me through a block, Sophie always had exactly what I needed to get me writing my best work.
Another resource Sophie brings is her unique ability to build community. In working with Sophie, I not only got her expertise and encouragement, but benefited from other writers working with her as well. Sophie brings tremendous compassion and experience to writing, and her scope of practice is unparalleled.”
- Eric K. Carr
Hi, I’m Sophie
I'm a writer, researcher and educator, but really, I’m a lifelong apprentice to the power of creativity who holds spaces for people like you to (re)discover the power of your creativity.
I’m the author of three bestselling novels and I’m a creative writing teacher, living in the North East of England with my gorgeous daughter.
I’m a member of the Creative Writing faculty at Teesside University and I research the connections between writing, creativity and our health.
I feel so lucky that teaching creative writing and facilitating spaces for personal exploration through writing process has been my work for 25 years now.
I’ve been creating writing courses and communities online since almost the beginning of the internet (yes, really!). In fact, in the early days, pre-Skype and pre-Zoom, we got together to talk about our writing on conference calls over crackly phone lines. People dialled in from all over the world on actual landline phones.
