solitary journey

Writing doesn’t have to be a

Solitary journey

In fact, many writers find their creativity flourishes when they’re part of a supportive, thoughtfully guided space.

Structure that helps you keep writing

Regular sessions and gentle invitations to write help create a rhythm for your creative practice, making it easier to show up consistently and make time for your words.

A quieter inner critic

When you write in a compassionate environment led by an experienced teacher, the pressure to “get it right” softens. You’re encouraged to experiment and let the words emerge without judgment.

Shared energy and inspiration

There’s something powerful about writing alongside others. The simple act of gathering together to write can spark motivation, creativity, and a sense of momentum.

A sense of belonging

Writing can be deeply personal, but it doesn’t have to feel lonely. Being part of a gentle creative community reminds you that others are exploring the same questions, feelings, and creative impulses.

Join a container where your creativity feels supported, nourished, and able to grow.

As part of the 3-month program you’ll receive:

“I have always enjoyed writing, but have frequently struggled with feeling stuck or feeling as though there was no reason or purpose for my writing.

Sophie’s workshops gave me a focus and a routine. There was accountability, but also flexibility. There was never any pressure to share what we had written, and our conversations about our own experience of creativity and writing were both instructive and supportive. Just committing to meet and write each week inspired me to grab some time during the week to write also, helping me to develop a more consistent habit of writing that has continued long after our time together.”

"I can absolutely say that my writing is vastly improved through my work with her. There is no one I would recommend more highly.

Sophie is a mentor, cheerleader, editor, accountability partner, advocate, consultant, and muse all wrapped into one incredible person. Whether I needed encouragement, accountability, direction, or one of her many prompts and tools to help get me through a block, Sophie always had exactly what I needed to get me writing my best work.
Another resource Sophie brings is her unique ability to build community. In working with Sophie, I not only got her expertise and encouragement, but benefited from other writers working with her as well. Sophie brings tremendous compassion and experience to writing, and her scope of practice is unparalleled.”

FEATURED IN

Hi, I’m Sophie!

I'm a writer, researcher and educator, but really, I’m a lifelong apprentice to the power of creativity who holds spaces for people like you to (re)discover the power of your creativity.

I’m the author of three bestselling novels and I’m a creative writing teacher, living in the North East of England with my gorgeous daughter.

I’m a member of the Creative Writing faculty at Teesside University and I research the connections between writing, creativity and our health.

I feel so lucky that teaching creative writing and facilitating spaces for personal exploration through writing process has been my work for 25 years now.

I’ve been creating writing courses and communities online since almost the beginning of the internet (yes, really!). In fact, in the early days, pre-Skype and pre-Zoom, we got together to talk about our writing on conference calls over crackly phone lines. People dialled in from all over the world on actual landline phones.

FAQs

What results can I realistically expect by the end of WRITE IT!?”

Every writer’s goals and journey is different, but by the end of the programme most participants have made meaningful progress on their writing and developed a clearer, more confident relationship with their work.

You can expect to:

  • Make substantial progress on a current writing project or establish a new one.
  • Develop a realistic, sustainable writing routine that works with your life.
  • Gain clarity about what you want to write and why it matters to you.
  • Learn practical strategies for moving through creative blocks and maintaining momentum.
  • Get to know other writers, feel less alone with your writing journey and maybe even make friendships that continue on after the program ends.
  • Experience the powerful motivation that comes from writing regularly within a supportive group.
  • Finish the programme with greater confidence in your voice, your process, and your next steps as a writer.

Many participants also find that the combination of coaching, structure and community helps them rediscover the joy of writing—something that can easily get lost when we’re working alone.

Will I have to share my writing with the group?

Sharing is always optional. Some participants enjoy sharing excerpts or reflections, while others prefer to keep their writing private. The programme focuses on supporting your process, not putting your work under pressure.

What happens if I can’t make all the calls?

That’s okay! It’s best if you can attend most sessions, though we understand that life sometimes gets in the way. The weekly writing sessions are not recorded. They’re designed as a live, focused writing space where participants can feel present, supported and accountable. The live nature of the sessions helps create the sense of shared momentum that makes the programme so powerful. But you’ll welcome to write privately in your own time if you can’t make a session to make up for what you’ve missed.

What is your cancellation policy?

Because WRITE IT! is a small, carefully curated programme with limited places, all bookings are non-refundable once your place has been confirmed. If you find that you can no longer attend before the programme begins, please get in touch as soon as possible and I will do my best to help, which may include transferring your place to someone on the waiting list where possible.

Do I need to have a project before joining?

No. Some people arrive with a clear project and deadline, while others are still figuring out what they want to write next. During our one-to-one coaching session, we’ll explore your goals and help you identify the writing project—or practice—that feels most important to focus on.

What kind of coaching support will I receive from Sophie?

You’ll receive two private one-to-one coaching sessions with Sophie—one at the beginning to set goals and create your writing plan, and one at the end to reflect on your progress and plan next steps. You’ll also have a mid-point check-in and unlimited email support throughout the programme.

What if I’m nervous about writing with other people?

Many participants feel this way at first. The group is intentionally small and carefully held to create a warm, respectful environment. You’ll be writing mostly independently during sessions, simply benefiting from the shared focus and encouragement of the group.

The world needs your words - now more than ever before!
